Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Help empower a community-based approach to suicide prevention.
Clackamas County is offering a free workshop - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) - on January 25 and January 26. ASIST is a two-day workshop for community members 16 and older. Participants must attend both days.
ASIST helps people apply suicide first-aid in many settings: with family, friends, co-workers, and teammates and leaves participants feeling more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to recognize those who are at potential suicide risk, intervene with, and refer them on to professional support. Over 200,000 individuals have participated in this two-day, highly interactive, practical, practice-oriented workshop.
Who: You don’t need any prior training to attend ASIST, just a willingness to make a difference. Anyone 16 years or older can attend.
When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26 (must attend both days)
Where: 2477 Country Club Road in Lake Oswego. The location is on the same campus as Lake Oswego High School and Lake Oswego School District’s Central Office. Please note that Google maps shows this as 2477 Hazel Road but Country Club will make it easier to locate. Park in the main parking lot.
Why: By training as many people as possible throughout our community, we can create safer environments for us to live, work, play and learn. Anyone, regardless of background or experience, can learn skills to start the conversation, to help keep someone safe and to connect them to further support.
Register: Register for this free two-day training. Use code: LakeOswego
(Note that the price is listed as $250 but the code creates zero cost.)
