Emergency Preparedness Fair 2025

September is National Preparedness Month. To celebrate and to learn how to prepare and protect yourself and your family in the event of a severe winter storm, earthquake, flood, or other disaster, join us at the Emergency Preparedness Fair on Thursday, September 18, 2025. 

Location:  Lake Oswego City Hall, 380 A Avenue
    (event will take place throughout City Hall and in the upper parking lot)

Stop by any time between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.!

 

This free, family-friendly event features:

  • 20+ Informational Booths
  • Live Demonstrations & Interactive Activities
  • Giveaways (while supplies last)
    • 3-gallon water containers (1 per Lake Oswego household). To prepare for an emergency, it is recommended that people store one gallon of water per person (and pet) per day for a minimum of 14 days. To help residents meet this goal, the City will be giving away approximately 280 BPA-free 3-gallon water containers (limit of one per Lake Oswego household).
    • 1-gallon soft-sided water bags – great for your emergency kit! Use this bag to get water from a distribution center during an emergency..
    • Reflectors to help you be seen at night
    • Lock Boxes. The Lake Oswego Police Department will be giving away medication lock boxes and handgun lock boxes along with cable locks.
    • And more!

Highlights include:

  • Learn how you and your family can be "2 Weeks Ready"
  • Learn how to Stop the Bleed. The Lake Oswego Fire Department (LOFD) will teach you life-saving skills to control severe bleeding in emergencies.
  • Discover how to properly shut off water and natural gas safely
  • Explore FRS/GMRS emergency radios and learn how to communicate with others across the city or beyond with radio! Get a hands-on tutorial on using two-way radios for emergency communications. Lake Oswego Amateur Radio Emergency Service (LO ARES) members will join LOFD to share license-free radio options used in neighborhoods in addition to information on how you can become a licensed operator, if desired.
  • Get tips on protecting your home from wildfires and sign up for LOFD’s free Home Assessment program
  • Plan for your pet during a disaster
  • Learn how to properly and efficiently fill a sand bag and how to stack them to get the most protection against flood waters
  • Check out our Portable Emergency Water Distribution Station demonstration
  • Learn about portable sanitation
  • Sign up for Public Alerts
  • Meet specially trained support dogs from HOPE Animal-Assisted Crisis Response

For the kids:

  • Navigate the Fire Safety Obstacle Course and learn how to safely exit your home during house fire!
  • TRUCKS! Tour emergency vehicles including a fire truck, police car, and snow plow.
