Norman Sylvester: The Northwest Original Blues and R&B, Norman “The Boogie Cat” Sylvester! Norman was born in Bonita, Louisiana on Sept.16, 1945. His Major Influences include: Mack Sylvester(Father) BB King Isaac Scott, Albert Collins, Freddie King & Albert King. His Mission in Music: To bring the healing force of music to his fans and to heal his soul by performing his music.
The Norman Sylvester Band is one of main ingredients of the Northwest music's "Soul Stew". The Band was started in 1987. The band performed at the first Waterfront Blues Festival in 1987 (The Rose City Blues Festival). Two weeks after that Festival, Norman was the opening act at the Arlene Schnitzer Hall for BB King. Since then, the band has shared the stage with: James Cotton,Tower of Power, Buddy Guy, The Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Peter Frampton and many more. Norman has performed with the Oregon Symphony (Patrick Lamb's NW Tribute to Ray Charles) and with James DePriest ( "Jamming with Jimmy" series) opening for the Oregon Symphony's fall season in 2000.
Norman is a very dedicated community active musician. He works with local Schools and with Ethos Inc. a non-profit community outreach music organization, teaching music history, lyric writing and performance skills to children in the Portland area. The Norman Sylvester Band has been nominated best R&B band for the past 10 years by the Cascade Blues Association. The Band is in high demand at Night club venues, festivals, corporate events, wedding receptions and private parties. Norman's mission is to keep the party rocking, the fans smiling, and to help create memories that will last forever.
