Blue Heron Pedestrian Bridge Repair Project

This project involves making repairs to the pedestrian bridge located on South Shore Boulevard over the Blue Heron canal, near the intersection of Blue Heron Road and South Shore Boulevard.

A recent structural engineering inspection report revealed that the pedestrian bridge is in poor condition, likely because of decay in the timber columns and decking. The report recommended rehabilitating the bridge in the next three years to continue operation.

The scope of the project includes:

  • Replacing approximately 315, 3”x12” timber deck boards and six, 10”x10” timber columns
  • Replacing the slip resistant matting

Schedule

Pending material availability, construction of the bridge repairs is expected to start the week of April 20, 2026 and take about two months to complete.

Traffic Impacts

Work hours are expected to be from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday. The pedestrian bridge will be temporarily closed during construction hours. Lane closures will be in place each day and flaggers will direct traffic. Pedestrians and bikes will be re-routed into the closed lane during work hours. The pedestrian bridge is expected to be back open after work hours.

Please plan for extra travel time, expect delays, or find alternate routes.
