Celebrate Public Works Week!

Our public works professionals make communities safer, healthier, more vibrant, and a better place to live. Meeting the needs of our community is what gives public works its sense of purpose.

During National Public Works Week (May 18-24, 2024), let's acknowledge and honor their relentless dedication and often unseen contributions. Take a few minutes to go behind-the-scenes with four Lake Oswego Public Works staff members. Learn how our Public Works team is advancing quality of life, public health, and well-being for everyone in our community.

Join us to celebrate Public Works Week by taking a tour of the Water Treatment Plant or visiting our Library for fun activities!

Stormwater Management Manual

The City’s Stormwater Management Manual (SWMM) provides guidance and standards for the placement, design, and maintenance of structures used to control runoff, reduce flooding, and prevent pollution from contaminating our local waterways. The manual applies to stormwater management design for public and private development and redevelopment within the City of Lake Oswego.

The City has updated the manual based on stakeholder feedback and revised DEQ water quality requirements. The 2025 draft manual is available for public comment through May 30.

Work Zone Safety Alert: Lakeview Boulevard

Lakeview Boulevard is always a busy corridor—with people walking, rolling, riding, and driving —but with major construction now underway, it’s more important than ever to SLOW DOWN and stay alert. Lakeview, between South Shore and Iron Mountain, is currently one-way eastbound for all vehicles and bikes. Riding your bike or driving westbound is not safe and puts everyone at risk. If you are a pedestrian, please use caution as it is very constricted with the single shared lane. There are multiple crews and utility companies working throughout the corridor, with heavy equipment and vehicles constantly moving—your attention and caution are critical.

Travelers are advised to find alternate routes, plan extra travel time, and avoid the project area. Schedules and traffic adjustments are subject to change throughout construction of this major project.

Pavement Rehabilitation Underway in April

In April, portions of Firwood Road, Oakridge Road, Crest Drive, Middlecrest Road, Glenmorrie Drive, Westview Circle, Woodland Terrace, and McNary Parkway are scheduled to be paved. Paving may include extensive repair areas, grinding existing pavement, and a new overlay or pavement of the driving lanes. You may see roads with lane closures and flagged one-way traffic, or full road closures with detours for everyone’s safety. Schedules are subject to change due to weather.

Wastewater Treatment Facility Project

Lake Oswego, with Portland’s support, has been using a phased project approach to replace the aging Tryon Creek plant with an environmentally sustainable wastewater treatment facility, at a good value to the community. The first phase of the project is now complete, which included developing facility designs, preliminary permitting, and proposed pricing for the Wastewater Treatment Facility Project.

For the second phase of the project, Lake Oswego will explore a competitive procurement method using public financing, to complete the design, construct the facility, and operate and maintain the facility under a long-term contract.
