A passport is an internationally recognized travel document that verifies the identity and nationality of the bearer. A valid United States (US) passport book, passport card, or WHTI compliant document is required to enter and leave most foreign countries.
Many countries around the world have instituted a six-month rule, which requires that travelers have at least six months of validity left in their passports at the time of arrival. For more information go to the US Department of State website ( https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/country.html ) and search by country.
Passport applicants must apply in person with required documents. Minors and infants must also be present. (See exceptions for those eligible to renew by mail.)
Application forms for Passport Books and/or Passport Cards are available at the Finance Department, on the first floor in City Hall, in the forms holder on the wall by the finance counter. Or you may download an application at the US Department of State website (printed one-sided)
