SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Now visiting a local park may include the unexpected pleasure of reading a story while you are there. The Youth Services team has been providing month-long installations of picture books in various Lake Oswego Parks (e.g. Luscher Farm, West Waluga, and Iron Mountain). Deconstructing the book into separate, laminated pages and spreading them along a path allows for a new way to experience these stories. The Library intends to increase the number of Storywalks in our area, and the chosen stories often reflect local and/or national celebrations. If you visit one of our StoryWalks, you can let us know what you think!
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Get started on the reading journey with your child by becoming part of Lake Oswego Library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. It’s easy and so doable! We’ll provide the support along the way with gifts, including a book tote, log sheets, early literacy information, prizes, and tips for reaching the 1000 book goal.
Summer Library Challenge
We make reading fun all summer long. Our theme for summer 2024 is "Read, Renew, Repeat" The program spans from June 1 to August 31 each summer.
Books for Babies
Do you know someone in the community who is expecting a baby, just gave birth, or adopted a child? The Friends of the LOPL want to support new parents by providing them with a bag of books for their baby! There will be a selection of board books along with materials for the new parents on early literacy and sharing songs and stories with babies. Just ask library staff the next time you are at the library.
