Global Stories - Albanian

Saturday, November 4, 2023 - 10:30am to 11:00am

First Saturday Readalouds
Listen to stories and songs told in different languages by Lake Oswego community members. Each month spotlights a different world language, familiar songs, and a simple craft.

This month Dea will read stories in Albanian. When she was just 10 years old, Dea and her parents left her home country of Albania, a former communist country, and moved to Florida. It was a big adjustment moving from the capital city to a college town, and she didn't know how to speak English, but she relied on her many fond memories from childhood to ease being homesick. She goes back home to visit with her husband and two daughters, loves exploring small towns by the Mediterranean, getting the chance to speak Albanian, and reconnecting with relatives.

(If your native language is not English, and you are interested in reading a story aloud to children at the library, please speak to one of our Youth Services Librarians for more information.)
