Deepening Our Connections: A Three-Part Series on African American Literature | Part 2
In this three-book discussion series, we will seek to deepen our connections to one another by better understanding the perspectives of African Americans through works of literature. We will focus on African American writing from three different periods of time: a slave narrative, a work from the Harlem Renaissance, and a modern work. Story is what connects us, and by hearing about the diverse and often painful experiences of our nation’s Black communities, we can better understand the change that is being called for today in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. Let’s continue the work that we started by reading Caste, and learn more about the people and experiences that have shaped our country. In partnership with Respond to Racism Lake Oswego.
Join us on Sunday, July 18 at 2 PM for Part 2 of this series, where we will be discussing Quicksand and Passing by Nella Larsen via Zoom. This virtual program will begin with a presentation on the historical background of these two works by Regan Parker. All are welcome!
Registration required in advance.
