Food-for-Fines in August: Sharing the Wealth
What better way to support the community and pay off library overdue fines, than to participate in our Food-for-Fines event! Throughout the month of August, the Lake Oswego Public Library will be partnering with the local Lake Oswego organization, Hunger Fighters Oregon, AND the Tualatin Schoolhouse Pantry to acquire food and hygiene items for local families in need. In exchange for each non-perishable food or hygiene item donated, the library will waive $1 in overdue fines. Please no expired products.
The pantries are in particular need of:
- Canned meats, baking products, rice, pasta, peanut butter
- Hygiene items
- Cat & dog food
Hunger Fighters Oregon, our newest food drive recipient, first started in 2014 as an after school club at Lake Oswego Junior High. During the course of three years, the Hunger Fighters Oregon club raised enough food and money to provide 10,000 meals to people in need. In 2016, Hunger Fighters Oregon became an official nonprofit organization and currently operates a food pantry in their new location called “The Green Garage” behind the Lake Oswego High School.
Tualatin School House Pantry, a partner of the Oregon Food Bank, is a community organized food bank that is supported by local churches, businesses, social and civic organizations, schools, individuals and local government agencies.
