Grief Management

Sunday, November 16, 2025 - 1:30pm to 3:00pm

How can we heal from—and even prepare for—grief, one of life’s inevitable experiences? Grief can take a toll both physically and emotionally, contributing to broken heart syndrome, depression, loneliness, and anxiety. This talk draws on current research and presents a mindfulness-based approach to understanding and managing grief. By shifting perspective, through “experiential learning,” we can uncover new ways to build resilience and support the healing process.

Surja Tjahaja holds a MBA degree from the University of Southern California. He is especially interested in how meditation promotes neuroplasticity and healing. A BRAINET board member (associated with OHSU), Surja draws upon scientific understanding in his teaching as well as his 20 years of meditation practice and chaplaincy experiences. He currently teaches meditation in the Portland, Oregon area and online.
