HYBRID First Tuesday Music: Arirang Korean Folk Songs on Kayageum

Tuesday, February 6, 2024 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Discover the world of Korean music, specifically the iconic Arirang folk song with its 3,600 variations, each reflecting the unique emotions of different Korean regions. At this event, you can even create your own Arirang, naming it after your hometown or personal connection. Doyeon Lim, a skilled gayageum player, will perform a selection of Arirang songs, providing insights into their backgrounds and lyrics. This is your chance to explore Arirang's rich heritage and gain a deeper understanding of Korean culture through the harmonious strings of the gayageum.

Doyeon is a versatile musician, skilled not only in gayageum but also in piano and ukulele. She has been a presence in the local music scene, participating in events such as the Beaverton Night Market and Cultural Exchange in Lake Oswego. Doyeon's commitment to preserving Korean traditional music is evident through her role in the Korean Music Institute of Oregon, which she founded and currently manages. The institute offers classes on various traditional Korean instruments and organizes concerts to share this heritage with the public.

Don't miss this authentic and culturally enriching musical experience.

The library is located at 706 Fourth Street, Lake Oswego. A livestream will also be available at https://www.youtube.com/@LakeOLib/streams.
