HYBRID: MLK Community Celebration 2024

Wednesday, February 28, 2024 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and teachings with a family-friendly celebration that features artwork created by LO youth, Katharine Phelps as emcee, welcoming remarks by Mayor Joe Buck, a poetry reading by Emmett Wheatfall, musical performances by Alonzo Chadwick, Sr. and The Godsistas, and closing remarks by City Councilor Massene Mboup.  This event was rescheduled from Sunday, January 14 due to inclement weather.

The City is joined by partners from African American Women of Lake Oswego and Surrounding Areas, Bahá’ís of Lake Oswego, LO for LOve, Lake Oswego School District, Lakewood Center for the Arts, Mary’s Woods, and Respond to Racism for this event.  This event is sponsored by the City of Lake Oswego, the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library, and Respond to Racism, with refreshments donated by Starbucks.
