At the Library: 70th Anniversary Reception

Sunday, February 22, 2015 - 11:30am

In honor of the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, the day’s festivities will include crepes from Creperie Le Bon Temps, Lake Oswego High School Windjammers, music from the era, refreshments and a WWII-era M3 Stuart Tank! That’s right - we’re bringing a full-sized tank to the Library.

Also hear World War II veterans will share memories of the war: Art Sorenson, who was awarded a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart; Dr. David Grimwood, a B17 pilot and Base Operations Officer and Wilton Jackson a bombardier in France and Italy.

The culmination of the day will be the unveiling of the Peace Pole, a hand-crafted monument donated by Lake Oswego Rotary Club. Written in a variety of different languages on its many faces, it speaks with a single voice: “May Peace Prevail on Earth.” As a symbol of our shared desire to see the world unified in peace, it links us with other Peace Poles that span the globe.  We honor the veterans who have given their lives by dedicating this Peace Pole to their memory.
