At the Library: Childhood in Nazi Germany

Tuesday, February 17, 2015 - 7:00pm

Professor Maureen Healy of the Department of History at Lewis & Clark College will speak at the Lake Oswego Public Library. Healy will examine the Nazi Party’s efforts to mobilize certain children before and during World War II.  Ironically, the Party idealized the virtues of family, but at the same time attempted to weaken bonds between parents and children. Some children fell outside the parameters of a racially defined Volk, while others actively resisted incorporation into the Hitler Youth and League of German Girls. Childhood is a useful and illuminating lens through which to view World War II.
