Tuesday, February 24, 2015 - 7:00pm
Hear Barbara Schmitter-Heisler speak about her research concerning German POWs who immigrated to the United States after the war. This research has resulted in the publication of several articles as well as a book entitled, From German Prisoner of War to American Citizen: A Social History with 35 Interviews. Mrs. Heisler was born in Heidelberg, Germany. She earned an MA in her homeland, Germany, and three years later received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. She was a “post-doctoral fellow” at Duke University. After having taught for some time she decided to retire, moving to Lake Oswego in 2005 with her husband.
