Performing Arts: Hula of Hawaii
Lisa Chang of Hula Hālau ‘Ohana Holo‘oko‘a will share some history of Hawaii and lead a performance of the hula dance. Wednesday May 14, 2:00pm
Lisa Chang began her formal hula training in 1987 with Kumu Hula (Hula Instructor) Linda Pi‘ilani Danek of Hula Hālau ‘O Pi‘ilani in Santa Clara, CA. She was promoted to 'Olapa (Assistant) in 1991 and continued to train until she moved back to Oregon in 1994. Lisa received several requests to teach hula in Oregon and was given permission to continue her passion.
Since not all knowledge is taught in one hula school, Lisa continues to learn by attending hula workshops by other Kumu Hula. Lisa has attended the Waikiki Hula Conference the past 5 years.
Lisa started Hula Hālau ‘Ohana Holo‘oko‘a with one adult class of 5 students in 1998. The school has grown to over 90 students in 7 classes ranging in age from 3 to 78. She currently teaches Hula & Tahitian dance at The Spot Studio Fitness in Beaverton. Hula Hālau ‘Ohana Holo‘oko‘a welcomes children and adults of all ages and experience levels.
