Pints from the Past: Jazz in Portland - Beginnings to Present Day

Tuesday, March 10, 2026 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Join us at the Lake Theater Cafe for this month's Pints from the Past Program hosted by Lynn Darroch on the topic of Jazz in Portland: Beginnings to Present Day.

Author, journalist and broadcaster Lynn Darroch leads you through 80 years of jazz in Portland, focusing on its three “Golden Ages.” Using audio samples, photo illustrations, and stories about influential artists, he explains how a mid-sized city with a small African-American population has supported a large and active jazz scene that has been shaped by environmental, economic, and social conditions. In the process, Over the years, it has become a community where craft is respected, history carried forward, young talent is nurtured, and nice guys often finish first.

This program is offered by the Lake Oswego Public Library in cooperation with the Lake Theater & Café. Admission is free and no ticket is required (though food and drink purchase is encouraged to offset the cost to the Lake Theater). Doors open at 6:30, the presentation begins at 7:00. The Lake Theater & Café is located at 106 North State Street in Lake Oswego.
