Rabbi Eve Posen: Pirkei Imahot, The Wisdom of Mothers, The Voices of Women
November is National Jewish Book Month and the Lake Oswego Library is happy to present Rabbi Eve Posen to speak about her new book, Pirkei Imahot: The Wisdom of Mothers, The Voices of Women that she co-wrote with Lois Sussman Shenker. These are women who studied together the ancient text of Pirkei Avot and then made a decision to respond through a book of their own. Although written with women in mind, this interactive book (filled with questions for self-reflection throughout) is for everyone looking to fine-tune their own ethical roadmap and gain wisdom on daily living.
Through the authors’ own unique experiences as women, mothers, leaders and teachers in their community, and those of the many women who contributed their own words of wisdom to this book, the reader will gain wisdom on how to live morally within her community, and how to strengthen her leadership roles to make a difference.
Rabbi Posen serves as the Assistant Rabbi at Congregation Neveh Shalom in Portland where she teaches, preaches, inspires, and engages all generations of the synagogue community. Born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Mich., Rabbi Posen attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where she received a B.A. in Judaic Studies. She also holds a Master’s degree in Experiential Education from the American Jewish University's Fingerhut School of Education. Upon her ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at AJU in 2010, she received the SREL (Schechter Residency in Educational Leadership) Fellowship. Rabbi Posen is married to Duncan Gilman, and their children Shiri and Matan are a constant source of inspiration.
