Seed Library 101, Library Gardens, & Plant Swap
Part of the Adult Summer Library Challenge 2:00-2:20 pm - Join librarians, Alicia, Rachael, and Shannon, for a presentation about how our seed library works and came to be. We will talk about the history of seed libraries, their purpose and benefits, and the community effort it took to actualize the Seed Library. We'll also be on hand to help you use the seed library and answer any questions you may have. Whether you're already an avid seed library user or looking to check out free seeds for the first time, we hope you'll join us!
2:20-2:40 pm - Enjoy a brief presentation by Library Director Melissa Kelly and members of the Library Advisory Board to explore how libraries are using natural spaces and gardening to foster community connection and lifelong learning. The conversation will highlight examples from other libraries and invite discussion about what is possible in a library, including ideas that could inspire local interest, engagement, and deeper connection to natural environments.
2:40-4:00 pm - Stay for a free plant and seed swap! Please bring any seeds and/or plants to trade that are known to be healthy. New and open seed packets are welcome, along with saved seeds from your garden. Please label any plants with their names, as well as their light, soil, and water preferences. Don't have seeds or a plant to swap? We have extras, so please join us anyway!
