Why Does Fake Information Exist? Understanding the Motives Behind Misinformation (Digital Dive #3)

Monday, July 14, 2025 - 10:00am to 11:30am

This is the third class in the series, "The Digital Dive," led by Adult Services Librarian April Younglove. Designed to help you navigate the rapidly-changing world of information with confidence, this series empowers you with essential fact-checking skills.

Have you ever heard of a content farm? These farms don’t grow food! Join us to uncover what content farms are and explore the motives behind misinformation. We’ll break down how social media algorithms, financial incentives, and influence campaigns fuel fake information, giving you the tools to spot and understand what’s driving it.

This class will be held at the Adult Community Center located at 505 G Ave, Lake Oswego, OR 97034. Please note that the first class of the Digital Dive was held at the Lake Oswego Public Library, while classes 2 to 5 are hosted at the Adult Community Center (ACC).

A recording of the first class, "Is it AI or Is it Real? How to Spot Computer-Generated Content Like a Librarian," held on March 13th, is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zviW8UQUhlc.
