William Stafford Birthday
Each year the Lake Oswego Public Library and the Friends of William Stafford celebrate the birthday of William Stafford. This year marks his 107th birthday.
Stafford was born in Kansas in 1914, and later moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon and taught English literature at Lewis and Clark College. Stafford published numerous volumes of poetry and prose during his lifetime including Traveling Through the Dark, for which he won the National Book Award in 1963. His books are available for checkout through the library catalog and his poems (and more) are housed in the William Stafford Archives at Lewis and Clark College.
William Stafford was also the subject of the 2014 Lake Oswego Reads/statewide celebration of his centennial. Lake Oswego Public Library held many wonderful events in his honor which you can still enjoy on the Lake Oswego Reads page.
