The Artistry of Curtis - 2/13

Saturday, February 13, 2016 - 10:00am to 11:00am

***Second presentation added at noon to 1 pm*** Enjoy a deeper appreciation of Curtis' artistry, lighting, camera work and compositions. Dawn Boone of A6 Studio in Bend, Oregon will examine select prints from the current Edward Curtis exhibit at Oswego Heritage House. Learn about Curtis' technical and creative challenges, and his hallmark photogravure process—an early intersection of photography and printmaking.

Dawn Boone is A6’s Executive Director. Dawn received her MFA in Printmaking from Bradley University in 1995, simultaneously completing a two-year print apprenticeship at Bradley’s Cradle Oak Press. Dawn works primarily in intaglio (“below the surface”) processes, using drypoint needles and mezzotint rockers to inscribe images in zinc and copper plates. Dawn creates small numbered print editions—often identically hand-colored with gouache—and restricts her images to a small scale to create a more intimate relationship with the viewer. Dawn has also worked extensively in etching, lithography and relief printing, and is enthusiastically exploring new non-toxic methods (A6 Artists).

This program is co-sponsored by AAUW.
