Beasts of the Southern Wild 2/7

Friday, February 7, 2020 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

In Rising, Dispatches from the New American Shore, author Elizabeth Rush mentions the film Beasts of the Southern Wild.  Here’s an opportunity to see it in a theater and discuss it afterwards. In the movie, 6-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) lives with her father Wink (Dwight Henry) in a remote Delta community. Wink is a stern taskmaster whose goal is to prepare his young daughter for the end of the world. When Wink falls mysteriously ill, nature seems to fall ill with him. Temperatures rise, the ice caps melt and fearsome prehistoric beasts called aurochs run loose. Rising waters threaten to engulf their community, sending Hushpuppy in search of her long-lost mother. Admission to this special screening is free; food and drinks will be available for purchase. Doors open at 1:30, film starts at 2:00.
