Climate, Hazards, and Resilience Foundations 4/18
Build disaster preparedness and climate resilience with ready-to-use, engaging resources. Drawing from HazAdapt Safety App and SubjectToClimate’s Oregon Climate Education Hub, participants will explore hands-on, age-appropriate tools that make preparedness accessible and relevant. Participants will deepen their understanding of local climate risks, learn ways to anticipate future hazards, and identify ways to foster individual and community resilience through education, preparedness, and social connection.
Participants build a shared understanding of key concepts, including:
- How climate change is influencing extreme weather and disasters in Oregon
- What climate resilience looks like at the individual and community level
- How knowledge, tools and resources can drive safety, preparedness, and resilience
In the first hour, we will explore what climate change driven hazards may look like in Oregon. We will also share simple, hands-on ways to make preparedness and safety easier using the HazAdapt Safety App. Participants will leave with practical steps they can use right away and a clearer path to local resources that support students, families, and school communities.
In the second hour, using resources from SubjectToClimate and the Red Cross Teacher’s Guide to Disaster Preparedness, we will discuss how people of all ages can process emotions, reduce fear, and build social connections that support preparedness for and safety and well-being during and after emergencies. Participants will leave with a curated guide of digital resources from the Oregon Climate Education Hub and local partners to bring learning back to their family, school, workplace, or community.
