February 19: A Legacy of Care at the Christie Home and School
Thursday, February 19th - 2:00-3:30 pm at Holy Names Heritage Center
The Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary began caring for orphans soon after their arrival in Portland in 1859. For years the Sisters cared for homeless children at St. Mary’s Academy and later at St. Paul’s Academy. In 1908, they established St. Mary’s Home for Girls in Oswego. It later became known as the Christie Orphan Home, the Christie Home and Christie School. This program will explore the Christie legacy of care through an historical overview, the memories of former residents and an exhibit. (Attached photo, credit to Archives, Sisters of the Holy Names)
