Geology Rocks: Faults, Volcanoes, and Earthquakes in Oregon 4/12
Join retired geologist Ian Madin for an accessible talk on Oregon’s geology and the forces that shape the landscape and drive earthquake activity in the Pacific Northwest.
Drawing on decades of experience with the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, Madin will explain how plate tectonics, faults, and volcanic processes created the rock layers beneath Oregon and continue to influence seismic risk today. Madin will also discuss the Cascadia Subduction Zone and why earthquakes are an ongoing concern for communities in our region.
You can also view Madin's rock sculptures in the adult World Languages section, on level 2 of the library throughout the month of April.
