Japanese Smart Cities 4/2

Thursday, April 2, 2026 - 5:30pm

Join us for an observation of Japan’s culture, changing society, sustainability, resiliency, and insights often overlooked by the media, from the perspective of an accidental resident. We will look at different aspects of how new Japanese neighborhoods are rising from abandoned factory sites, old neighborhoods are changing with the times in the new age, and how these neighborhoods are designed for sustainability and resilience to natural disasters.  A peek into Japanese day-to-day life, with lessons we can learn and apply.

Bret ‘Buzz’ Chandler graduated from Lewis and Clark College and has 25 years of experience in international trade logistics operations, 20 years in the import/export business, and resides in both Lake Oswego and Japan.
