At Oswego Heritage House: Meet Brigadier General James B. Thayer & Anne Sandoval

Wednesday, February 4, 2015 - 7:00pm

Oswego Heritage Council would like to invite community members to our First Wednesday lecture series at the Heritage House on February 4, 2015 at 7 pm. Speakers on February 4th are Brigadier General James Thayer and Anne Sandoval. February’s First Wednesday is part of the Lake Oswego Reads Program.

Brigadier General James Thayer joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and earned the prestigious Silver and Bronze Stars for his combat heroics in Europe during World War II. Second Lieutenant Thayer’s anti-tank mine platoon discovered and liberated a Nazi death camp, Gunskirchen Lager, near Wels, Austria, saving the lives of over 15,000 Hungarian Jewish refugees. General Thayer will discuss his military experiences.

Anne Sandoval is one of Lake Oswego’s “Rosie the Riveters”. During WW II, Anne graduated from High School and became a riveter for Lockheed Aircraft, building the Mighty Lightning P38, the fastest plane during the war. She loved her job but lost the hearing in one ear due to the constant riveting noises. However, Anne feels that was little sacrifice compared to what our service men went through during the war. She will share her experiences contributing to the home front during World War II.

OHC’s museum will have an exhibit featuring World War II memorabilia. OHC’s museum is open most weekdays from 10am until 3pm. The WWII exhibit will run from January 26 through February 16.

Please join on February 4th for an interesting and informative evening. Oswego Heritage House will open its doors at 6:30 pm and the presentation will begin at 7 pm. Light refreshments will be offered. If you have any questions about the event, please contact Oswego Heritage House at oswegoheritage@yahoo.com or 503-635-6373.
