World Cinema with LO Reads: Force Majeure (Swedish, English, and French)
As part of the 2026 LO Reads series, Lake Oswego Public Library’s World Cinema Night will explore themes from this year’s community read, Tilt by Oregon author Emma Pattee.
Force Majeure is a darkly comedic disaster film that examines how ordinary people respond when a sudden crisis disrupts everyday life. Set during a family ski vacation, the film focuses less on the disaster itself and more on human behavior, moral choices, and the stress that reveals underlying family dynamics.
Both Tilt and Force Majeure ask similar questions: How do people react when stability disappears? What responsibilities do we have to one another during moments of fear and uncertainty? How do relationships shift after a shared traumatic experience?
This screening invites viewers to reflect on these themes alongside the LO Reads selection and consider how disaster, whether personal or collective, can change how we see ourselves and others.
Stay after the screening to take part in a thought-provoking discussion about the film.
This event takes place at Lake Theater & Café. Admission is free and no ticket is required, though food and drink purchases are encouraged to help offset the cost to the Lake Theater.
