Violations vs. Crimes

Citations fall into two categories: violations and crimes. The appropriate box at the top of the ticket will have been checked by the police officer to designate which is charged.

  1. Violation cases: The options are listed on the back of the ticket.  This court does not do Option 4.  If the person does not appear, a default judgment is imposed and the license may be suspended if the fine is not paid.
  2. Criminal cases: If the citation is a criminal matter, the person must appear in court at the time designated at the bottom of the ticket. If he or she does not appear, a warrant will be issued for the person's arrest, and his or her driver's license may be suspended.
