Business Eviction Moratorium
On April 1, 2020, Governor Kate Brown issued Executive Order 20-13, placing a 90-day moratorium on commercial evictions for nonpayment, This Executive Order remains in effect for 90 days unless extended or terminated earlier by the Governor.
Background: House Bill (HB) 4213 prohibited commercial eviction activity for nonpayment of rent from April 1 through September 30, 2020. HB 4213 also stated that, beginning October 1, 2020, a commercial landlord may provide written notice to commercial tenants that the landlord may terminate the tenancy if rent and other payments that become due after the emergency period are not timely paid.
