McEwan Road Sidewalk
In 2025, Lake Oswego City Council approved moving forward with completing design of a new sidewalk on McEwan Road, between SW 65th Avenue and Kristi Way. This project is a partnership with the Lake Oswego School District (LOSD) and provides a critical connection to the River Grove Elementary School.
LOSD started design on the new sidewalk in 2023. Under an agreement, the City is taking on project management of the sidewalk. Designs are now complete for the new sidewalk. City project team members reached out to directly impacted residents and property owners in fall 2025 to discuss the project and receive input.
An open house to share the final designs is expected to be held in early 2026.
The project includes:
- Approximately 1,500 feet of new concrete sidewalk along the north shoulder of McEwan Road, between SW 65th Avenue and Kristi Way,
- Two new curb ramps,
- Driveway reconstruction,
- Relocation of water meters or boxes,
- Removal of a small number of trees,
- Stormwater drainage improvements, including some landscaped planters and storm pipe.
Construction is expected to take place in spring/summer 2026, before school resumes. Schedules are subject to change.
Project Updates
May 8, 2026
Construction of the new sidewalk on McEwan Road between SW 65th Ave and Kristi Way is expected to start next week and continue through summer 2026. Turney Excavating is our contractor who will be constructing the improvements. They have worked on many of our new sidewalks recently in Lake Oswego.
Key Information:
- Preliminary “soft start” construction activities are planned for next week. This involves setting up erosion control and tree protection fencing, marking utilities with paint, marking the property lines and right of way with survey stakes, mobilizing equipment to the site, setting up traffic control, and clearing vegetation in the area where the new sidewalk will be installed.
- During the following week, four trees that have been permitted for removal will be taken down within the project limits. To view a map of these trees, click here.
- Crews will then begin focusing on demolition/removing and clearing vegetation, and beginning to form the area for the new sidewalk, focusing between 65th and Longfellow.
Traffic Conditions:
- Over the next few weeks while school is in session, please expect lane closures with flaggers from 9 am—6 pm. While school is still in session, crews will try and focus on working further to the west of the project limits, near 65th Street. Lane closures/flagging hours are subject to change and may be adjusted, pending traffic conditions. While school is still in session, crews will prioritize access for school buses.
- When school is out of session for the summer, there will be temporary road closures on segments of McEwan from 7 am—6 pm. Detours will be in place for through traffic. Access will remain open to residents located within the work zones, emergency services, mail, and garbage collection.
As with any of these construction projects, schedules are subject to change. We and the contractor will do our best to coordinate any driveway interruptions/demolition/concrete pours with impacted residents in advance.
April 2026
Thank you for joining us at our community open house on April 29! Here are the boards that were on display and here is a link to the final plans.
Construction is expected to start in mid-late May and continue through summer.
- Work hours are 7 am – 6 pm, Monday to Friday.
- While school is in session, expect lane closures with flaggers from 9 am—6 pm (subject to change).
- When school is out of session for the summer, there will be temporary road closures on segments of McEwan from 7 am—6 pm. Detours will be in place for through traffic. Access will remain open to residents located within the work zones, emergency services, mail, and garbage collection.
- During work hours, expect brief delays, dust, vibration, and noise from activities and equipment.
- Underground utilities will be marked on the street and in the right-of-way with paint. Wooden stakes may also be placed in some areas within the project area.
- Four trees that have been permitted for removal will be removed at the beginning of the work.
- Steel plates may be placed, and equipment will be stored on the street or in the right-of-way.
- On-street parking may be restricted at times in the work zone.
- The project team will coordinate any driveway reconstructions with impacted residents in advance.
March 2026
The project is currently out to bid to hire a contractor! We expect construction to start place sometime in late May or early June, and continue through summer 2026.
We are holding a community open house where members of the community can view the final design plans, meet members of the project team and contractor, and learn more about what to expect during upcoming construction. Please join us, drop in anytime between 4-6 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the River Grove Elementary School Cafeteria. Meeting details here.
November 2025
Survey work and site visits to finalize designs will be taking place in the coming weeks along McEwan Road. What to expect:
- Underground utilities will be marked on the street and in gravel parking areas with colored paint. Paint marks will disappear over time.
- Survey crews will primarily work in the public right-of-way, but at times, may need to access private properties to verify property corners and monument markers. They will knock on doors or leave door hangers if access is needed.
- Trees may be flagged during survey work. We will be looking at how to minimize impact to trees and will have an arborist working with the team.
- Occasional daytime lane closures may occur while crews conduct exploratory digging or potholing for utilities. Flaggers or signage will direct drivers or assist local neighbors with access.
- Wooden stakes with flags may indicate the public right-of-way, drainage issues, or other considerations. Please do not remove or adjust the stakes.
The project team plans to hold an open house to share the final designs with the community in early 2026.
