
Arbor Month Art Contest 2025
Trees are for the Birds!
In celebration of Lake Oswego Arbor Month and 36 years of Tree City USA recognition, the City hosted a Trees are for the Birds! themed art contest for K-5th grade Lake Oswego students. Participants were asked to find a fun fact about how birds use trees and create an original work of art featuring trees and birds.
Entries will be displayed electronically at City Hall and the Public Library through mid-May, or check them out using the link to the right. First, Second and Third place winners were selected in each of two grade divisions and prizes will be awarded at the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. where the band plays. This year’s winners are:
Kindergarten through 2nd Grade Division –
First Place: Dean Milner, Kindergarten, Down to Earth Forest School. Dean’s fun fact: “Some eagles make their nests in trees so heavy and big that their nest can weigh more than a motorcycle.”
Second Place: Lumi King, First Grade, Forest Hills Elementary School. Lumi’s fun fact: “Empty holes make shade for birds.”
Third Place: Ahaan Joshi, Kindergarten, Oak Creek Elementary School. Ahaan’s fun fact: “American crows sleep in large groups in the winter which can be up to 2,000,000 crows.”
3rd through 5th Grade Division –
First Place: Kyrie Taylor, Fifth Grade, Palisades Elementary School. Kyrie’s fun fact: “Cedar Waxwings eat berries from garden bushes and then sleep in tall trees.”
Second Place: Audrey Cherrytree, Fourth Grade, Palisades Elementary School. Audrey’s fun fact: “Hummingbirds sit on perches and guard their territories.”
Third Place: Ada Lofts, Third Grade, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic School. Ada’s fun fact: “Geese spend 30 days under trees sitting on eggs.”
