Celebrate May 2026 Preservation Month
48 Eagle Crest Drive in Mountain Park - Park Place Condominiums
Lake Oswego, Oregon This May, for Preservation Month, we’re celebrating the power of place—and the countless ways, big and small, that preservation creates. Preservation Month is our chance to show why our work matters!
Each year in May, local preservation groups, state and local historical societies and businesses and civic organizations across the country celebrate Preservation Month through events that promote historic places and heritage tourism and that demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation. Preservation Month began as National Preservation Week in 1973. In 2005, the National Trust extended the celebration to the entire month of May and declared it Preservation Month to provide an even greater opportunity to celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our country, cities and states.
Citizens in Lake Oswego will join thousands of individuals across the country to celebrate National Preservation Month this May with the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. This is a month-long opportunity to showcase the City’s historic places and tell the American story. Preservation month is meant to connect the preservation community and introduce new audiences to the City’s work in preservation of the places that make Lake Oswego special. This year we will be presenting The Jeannie McGuire Historic Preservation Award to John Sperry and the Lake Monsters Robotics Team for their work on the self-guided historic walking tour that provides an overview of the Lakewood Neighborhood’s history.
Here in Lake Oswego, Preservation Month, 2026 will be observed by:
- A Historic Preservation Proclamation adopted by Mayor, Joseph Buck at the City Council meeting on May 5.
- Presentation of the Jeannie McGuire Historic Preservation Award to John Sperry and the Lake Monsters Robotics Team for their work on the self-guided historic walking tour that provides an overview of the Lakewood Neighborhood history.
- Presentation of the completed Selective Reconnaissance Level Survey of the McVey South Shore and Hallinan Neighborhoods.
