Chief Daniel K. Duncan Remembered

Please take a moment to honor the memory of Lake Oswego Police Chief Daniel K. Duncan. Eleven years ago today, Chief Duncan died of a heart attack following an incident in our Municipal Court. Chief Duncan served 9 years with the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Lake Oswego Police Department in 1985. He served the City of Lake Oswego for over 25 years, the last 7 as Police Chief.

As he rose through the ranks, Chief Duncan established and oversaw training programs for new officers and helped improve the department’s hiring processes. He was named Chief in 2003 and subsequently reorganized and streamlined the department’s command structure. He has been described as a “larger-than-life” figure who was well-liked and well-regarded by the law enforcement community, his officers, and the community of Lake Oswego, which he loved.

Those who were fortunate to know him remember his infectious smile and his great sense of humor. He is dearly missed.
