E-Bike Focused Patrols in Lake Oswego
LAKE OSWEGO – With the recent significant increase in the use of Electric Assisted Bicycles (“E-Bikes”) in Lake Oswego, it is crucial to uphold regulations that protect the safety and harmony of our streets. Effective immediately, we will enhance our education efforts to ensure compliance with the State of Oregon e-bike regulations. Officers will be conducting regular patrols and focusing on areas with high e-bike traffic.
The goal of this mission will be to educate the community and promote responsible riding while preserving public safety.
We encourage e-bike riders to familiarize themselves with the following e-bike regulations:
- You must be at least 16 years old to operate it.
- A helmet is not required for anyone over 16 years of age (but is recommended).
- You must have approved lighting if it is operated under limited visibility.
- They are NEVER allowed on sidewalks (ORS 814.410).
- Riders MUST use a bike lane if one is adjacent to or near a roadway (ORS 814.420).
- They are allowed on bike paths and in crosswalks.
E-bikes offer a convenient and eco-friendly alternative to traditional bicycles and motor vehicles, but it is imperative that users understand and adhere to the applicable laws.
