We are excited to share that two of our newer officers, Kellen Mathisen and Jeremy Lemar, graduated from the basic police academy on Friday, March 17, 2023. Graduation was the culmination of 16 weeks of training at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) basic police academy in Salem, Oregon, where they get their start learning the basics of policing. Officers Mathisen and Lemar will now continue their field training where they will build upon the concepts and skills learned at the academy.
Kellen Mathisen
Kellen grew up in The Dalles Oregon where he graduated from high school in 2016. He was the second born out of 4 boys. Kellen attended Corban University, in Salem, where he studied Criminal Justice. He was hired by Lake Oswego Police in 2021 as a CSO. Kellen married his wife, Olivia, in August of 2020. He enjoys weightlifting, disc golf, music, and spending time with his wife. Kellen was drawn to law enforcement when he saw the social divide between the community and the police. He wanted to be part of a team that focused on tearing down the barriers between police and the community by demonstrating the ability to do the right thing and deliver exemplary service.
Jeremy Lemar
Jeremy was born and raised in Portland. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Mari and his son Elijah, in addition to his three dogs. Jeremy made the decision to enter into a career in law enforcement to allow him to have interactions with his community and to create a sense of security and well-being. He also saw this as a personal challenge to develop a long-lasting relationship with the City and its police Department.
