LAKE OSWEGO – On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at about 3:09 am, a wrong-way driver crashed into a Lake Oswego Police car as the officer was driving northbound on Boones Ferry Road near Reese Road.

At about 3:09 am, the officer was on routine patrol, driving a marked police vehicle northbound on Boones Ferry Road approaching Reese Road, when a wrong-way driver suddenly appeared around the corner and crashed almost head-on into the officer’s vehicle. This section of Boones Ferry Road is separated by a concrete and landscaped median and curves to the left as you drive northbound.

Since a Lake Oswego Officer was involved in the crash, Officers from the West Linn Police Department responded to the scene and investigated the incident.

The officer was transported to an area hospital where they were treated and released for non-life-threatening injuries. The wrong-way driver, identified as 22-year-old Beaverton resident, Weinner Santos-Leon, was not injured. He was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, and Assault 4 for having caused physical injury to the officer. He later took a breath test almost three hours after the crash, and it revealed his breath alcohol concentration (BAC) to be 0.14%.

We are grateful that our officer was not seriously injured, and appreciate the prompt response and thorough investigation by the West Linn Police Department.
