Emergency Management
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) are groups of citizens trained to be first responders in the event of serious community disaster. Training includes fighting small fires, victim search and rescue, and learning disaster medicine and psychology.
The Pacific Northwest is a great place to live, but there are some natural hazards that our residents should be prepared to face. While a major earthquake, tsunami or volcanic eruption could create significant damages, other more common events like ice/snow storms, flooding, landslides, wildland fires and tornadoes have impacted the region. These regionalized events create disruptions to our normal daily activity that residents should be prepared to face.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a program sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). It consists of amateur radio operators who volunteer their time, personal equipment and communications skills as a public service when disaster strikes.
The City of Lake Oswego Emergency Management Program is responsible for planning, preparing, and providing for the prevention, mitigation and management of emergencies or disasters that present a threat to the lives and property of Lake Oswego community members.
Lake Oswego uses the ClackCo PublicAlerts emergency notification software system to distribute important emergency messages. The City urges everyone to sign up to receive PublicAlerts notifications.
Each county has its own unique PublicAlerts system. You will only receive this type of alert if the address you provided when signing up is in an affected area. Depending on where you live, work, attend school, etc. You might need to register in several counties.
