Freedom to Read Month: Call for Creative Submissions

Sunday, September 1, 2024 - 1:00pm to Monday, September 30, 2024 - 7:00pm

We invite all to participate in celebrating our freedom of expression and freedom to read this fall! Submit an 8 ½ x 11 piece of work that expresses what Freedom to Read means to you. Your work may be selected to be displayed at the Lake Oswego Public Library during Freedom to Read Month this October.

Submissions can be in a variety of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, print, pastels, charcoal, drawing, mixed media, digital art, photography, or written pieces. You can reimagine a banned book cover, illustrate a compelling scene or character, visualize the boundless worlds opened by stories, or write about how a book broadened your perspective. Let your creativity shine and help us honor the freedom to read!

Please submit your work to the Lake Oswego Public Library Reference Desk between September 1-30. Selected works will be displayed in the library from October 1-19. All submissions will receive a raffle entry for a grand prize. All artwork will be available for creators to pick up starting on October 20. The Library reserves the right not to display any work deemed to be unsuitable for a general audience.

Submissions must:

  • Be received by September 30
  • Be on paper no larger than 8 ½ x 11”
  • Include your name and contact information on the back
