National Police Week 2024
LAKE OSWEGO - In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. National Police Week was created to honor the federal, state, and municipal police officers who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty.
Since the role was created, peace officers have stepped into the fray to protect our communities at great personal sacrifice. Regardless of what is happening in the world, peace officers suit up every day to help those who have been taken advantage of, to stop people from hurting others, to help make sense of tragedy.
Peace officers do this knowing full well that this courage may lead to them becoming seriously disabled or killed. Since the 1860s, more than 190 peace officers in Oregon have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Lake Oswego Police Department would like to thank its officers, partner agencies, and families and friends for their dedication to this community and this profession. Their commitment and devotion to always answer the call are admirable and greatly appreciated.
