Project Updates
June 10, 2024 at 4:30 p.m.: Paving on 1st is complete & the road is back open
Paving is now complete on 1st Street, between A Avenue and Evergreen Street. While the street was completely closed to all vehicular traffic – including the public parking lots on 1st Street – we kept the sidewalks open for pedestrian, bike and business access.
Crews arrived at 6 a.m. to grind out and remove the top 2 ½ inches of asphalt, and began placing new asphalt at around 11 a.m. We opened the road back up at 4:30 p.m., an hour and half ahead of schedule.
A big thanks to the property owners/managers, businesses, and residents on 1st Street for your patience, and for your coordination to reduce impacts. And thank you to the traveling public and pedestrians for following the signage and flagger directions in this downtown core during very major construction activities!
Here are some action shots from the day. Enjoy the new pavement!

April 30, 2024: 1st Street Paving Now Anticipated for Early June

April 28, 2024: 1st Street Expected to be Paved in late May/early June
City Council is expected to approve the contract for 2024 paving at the May 7 Council Meeting.
We have coordinated with the property managers along 1st Street and set a goal to pave in late May or early June, on a Sunday or Monday before school lets out and the downtown gets busier for the summer season. Paving schedules change due to weather and other issues, but the plan is to pave 1st Street on one of the following dates: Monday, May 20; Monday, June 3; Sunday, June 9, or Monday, June 10. A detailed schedule will be shared here once it is confirmed with the contractor.
