LOPD Careers

We are always seeking qualified individuals who are interested in joining our Lake Oswego Police Department team. Our philosophy is community-oriented policing and empowering officers and staff to deal with problems proactively to best serve the Lake Oswego community.

The Lake Oswego Police Department (LOPD) is a full-service police force upholding the City of Lake Oswego’s mission to cultivate an exceptional quality of life for everyone in our community through our shared values of Respect, Excellence, Trust, and Service.

As part of their duties, officers are expected to get to know members of the business community and neighborhood residents; patrol assigned areas on foot or in the car; conduct routine and detailed investigations into criminal and civil matters; enforce state and local traffic laws, and demonstrate a service orientation with an understanding of community-oriented policing.

We have a number of opportunities our officers can pursue, from patrol to detective to motorcycle officer to instructor in multiple disciplines. You can learn about each of our divisions on our divisions page.

We offer premium pay for motorcycle officers, instructors, K-9 officers, school resource officers, our adult resource officer, detectives, and for officers who demonstrate proficiency in a language other than English.

We also offer longevity pay for multiple years of service, incentive pay for education and certifications, and a 5% shift differential for those assigned to the graveyard shift for all hours worked on that shift.

Our members are also allowed one hour per shift while on duty for fit time, during which they can exercise or practice mindfulness.

Incentives for lateral police officer applicants may also be available!
