About the Project
South Shore Fire Station
Constructed in 1971, South Shore Fire Station is the oldest of the Lake Oswego’s four fire stations. Located at 1880 South Shore Boulevard.
- Closest Fire Station to Luscher Farm, George Rogers Park, the Lake Oswego Recreation & Aquatic Center, the Municipal Golf Course, and Rassekh Park
- Closest to Lakeridge High School, Hallinan Elementary School, and Mary’s Woods and Stafford Retirement Community
- Houses LOFD Rescue Boat, which responds as part of the regional water consortium team to Lake Oswego and all of Clackamas County Waterways
- Responds city-wide for multi-unit incidents such as cardiac arrests, fires, and serious motor vehicle accidents
South Shore Station Deficiencies
Over the last fourteen years, through strategic investment, the Fire Department has extended the life of this facility. However, there are substantial upgrades to maintain its ability to effectively respond to medical, fire, and life safety emergencies.
Significant Facility Deficiencies include:
- Does not meet current seismic standards as a “essential facility”
- Lacks crucial designated decontamination areas to limit carcinogen exposure
- Inadequate fire apparatus and vehicle storage
- Lacks space for increased staffing during prolonged weather events and/or large-scale disasters
- Non-compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Living quarters lack privacy & equitable accommodations for a diverse workforce
- Lacks community space for meetings, educational programs, emergency preparedness, and firefighter training
The South Shore Fire Station has reached the end of its useful life. This facility needs to be replaced in order to maintain our current and future coverage for medical, fire, and life safety emergencies.
To address these issues, Council has directed staff to further explore project costs and gauge community support.
