Permit Types and Requirements
Tree Removal
A permit is required to remove a tree 6 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) or greater. Click here for the City’s Tree Removal Guide with instructions on how to measure DBH and more detailed information on tree removal permit types and click here for application forms.
You may apply for a permit in person on the third floor of City Hall, 380 A Avenue, or mail in the application for some permit types. The Reference table of permit types summarizes the tree permits, submittal requirements and fees.
Eligible tree removal applications may be mailed, along with a check for the application fee made out to the ‘City of Lake Oswego’, to:

Tree Protection
Prior to conducting any development activities on a property including, but not limited to, clearing, grading, construction, excavation, or demolition work on any site, tree protection fencing is required to be installed around all trees potentially affected by the development. The applicant must submit a Tree Protection Permit application and the fencing must be inspected by City staff before the permit is issued.
Tree protection inspection days and times for conducting the above noted inspections are as follows:
Mondays (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm)
Wednesdays (8:30 am – 11:30 am)
Fridays (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm)
