Black History in Oregon

Oregon Black Pioneers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to researching, honoring, and preserving the history and heritage of African Americans in Oregon. Explore their resources to learn more about Black history in Oregon, including a wide range of educational materials highlighting the significant contributions of African Americans to our state's past and present.

2025 Theme

The Official theme of 2025 Black History Month is African Americans and Labor.

Black History Month Virtual Festival

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History will be hosting a month long virtual festival celebrating Black History. The festival includes author talks, panel discussions and film screenings please visit, Black History Month Virtual Festival for a schedule of events. 

Support Black-Owned Businesses and Organizations! 

Make a pledge this Black History Month to support locally owned Black businesses and organizations! Mercatus or The Black American Chamber of Commerce for directories of Black Owned Businesses in the Portland Metro area.
